Misché Hubbard is currently a PhD candidate in the chemical engineering department at the University of Michigan. Prior to her studies at Michigan, she was an undergraduate studying chemical engineering at the University of New Mexico (UNM) where she was a teaching assistant for two courses, also conducting research and presenting her work at national conferences and prestigious schools such as MIT and UC Berkeley.

Most importantly, Misché was able to do all of this DEBT FREE and actually made money while attending college!

Misché can’t attribute all of her successes to hard work alone. Her many mentors, both past and present, have helped her learn the “secrets” to college and career success. Misché was like so many of you when it came to the idea of college and what steps were necessary to becoming the best engineer possible. Overwhelmed. Confused. NOT confident. Once she had the support of her mentors, however, achievements and accolades came POURING in.

Misché soon realized that there were still hundreds, if not thousands of students, who are in the same position she was: lost and afraid. For this reason, she started a peer mentoring program at UNM!

Misché says, “Knowing the peer mentoring program at UNM is still alive and functioning brings me great joy, however there’s one problem, I don’t get to mentor through the program anymore!” Knowing she could help start an undergraduate mentorship program at Michigan would only lead to the same problem. She wouldn’t be able to mentor once she graduated.

And that’s the reason Misché founded The Libra League, to help tip the scale in your direction, anytime and anywhere.

Additionally, Misché was a teaching assistant for two engineering courses and had two research positions which she presented around the country including at UC Berkeley and MIT. She’s also been the recipient of numerous awards at National conferences.

Misché believes others can learn from her mistakes and missed opportunities from not being as engaged in the curriculum and career as she should have been. She says, “I should have started my career plans earlier. A lot of students are college and career planning in middle school and in cases elementary school. I want to help students college and career plan asap. I want to equip them with skills to find a career they are passionate about and to pursue their goals at the same time. I want my students to have total control and confidence through their application process and understand every component of their college admissions. Further, I want them to get the most our of the college experience so ill teach then tips and tricks , how to network with professors, how to create internship opportunities, how dive into career from day one.”

Most importantly, Misché wants to help her students graduate debt free just as she was able to do. Not only that, she was actually able to make money during her undgrad and graduate student years. “I'll help students manage their college finances with the intent to graduate debt free or with the least amount of student loan debt as possible.”
